A favorite treat at Christmas time, or any other time of the year for that matter, snickerdoodles are a simple cookie to make and a delicious one to nibble on during the holidays or offer as a sweet gift.
What You’ll Need:
2 sticks of butter
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 complete egg
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 3/4 cups of flower
For the cinnamon sugar:
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon
Start by preheating your oven to 325 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Mix together butter and both sugars until smooth. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla and continue to stir until well mixed.
Next gradually mix in the baking soda, cream of tartar, cinnamon, and flour. The cream of tartar and cinnamon are you “magic ingredients” that give snickerdoodles their unique flavor. Mix until just combined.
Meanwhile, mix together the sugar and cinnamon in a small box.
Measure out about 2 tablespoons of the snickerdoodle dough and roll into a ball. Roll the ball through the cinnamon sugar mixture, being sure to get it well coated.
Place the dough roll on your baking sheet, setting each ball about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, remove and let cool.
